Swellendam Municipality hosted a special Council meeting on 31 January 2022 in order to receive the Auditor General’s audit report as well as the municipality’s Annual Report for the 2020/2021 financial year.
The Auditor General (AG) represented by Mrs Gina Shultz, Acting Senior Auditor Manager, presented the final audit. Schultz cited her statement from the report; “I have audited the financial statements of Swellendam Municipality, which comprise the statement of financial position, statement of financial performance, statement of changes in net assets, cash flow statement and statement of comparison budget and actual amounts for the year ended, as well as notes to the financial statements including a summary of the significant accounting policies for the period ending 30 June 2021. The audit outcome has remained unchanged from the prior year as unqualified with no findings. We commend management for the control environment they have established and maintained to achieve and maintain a clean audit outcome.”
Executive Mayor, Francois du Rand, stated “This is testimony to the commitment of this administration to show residents and ratepayers that the funds paid to us are dealt with the necessary respect and trust. The hard-earned money that residents and ratepayers pay to us is used in according to good governance and accountability principles. While we do not have sufficient funds for all our challenges, the funds we receive is being spent as best we can. My sincerest thanks to the CFO, Elmarie Wasserman, and her team in the Financial Services directorate for navigating this fantastic outcome. As one of less than 30 municipalities to achieve this outcome we are proud and pleased to lead from the front once again.”
Municipal Manager, Anton Groenewald, further commented “The clean audit is testimony to the commitment of the team lead by CFO Wasserman and Chief Audit Executive, JP Rossouw, and the consistency with which the rules and regulations are applied and adhered to. We are indeed very pleased to number amongst the few municipalities to achieve this goal. This demonstrates that effective and clean governance is possible. Congratulations to the CFO and her team for delivering this outcome.
