If you’re in Swellendam and worried because you may miss your weekly park run, don’t fear. That’s because Swellendam parkrun exists, and may even introduce you to a few other adventures.

Swellendam Parkrun Marloth Nature Reserve Trails Bruce Maboza

The event starts at the gates of the Marloth Nature Reserve, where everything is a mini-adventure. Once you’re done running you can explore the nature reserve and discover even more fun things to do than a park run.

Swellendam Parkrun: When and How?

Swellendam park run takes place every Saturday at 8 am. As a registered park runner, you can simply bring along your barcode to scan before you hit the trail, if you don’t bring your barcode, you won’t get a time. So don’t forget if you want to include your Swellendam time in your park run record.

If you don’t have a barcode, you reprint your barcode from your original registration email. If you can’t find that, you can always request for the barcode to be sent again and you can have it printed and scanned.

Swellendam Parkrun: The Route

Although it starts at the gate of the Marloth Nature Reserve, the route for this run never goes inside the reserve. Instead, it skirts the outside, across the dam wall.

The route is a mix of trails and paths as well as steady inclines but is suitable for all skill levels. Weather conditions could lead to mud, puddles and other obstacles. The route is a perfect 5km, as measured with a professional measuring wheel.

Swellendam Parkrun: The Stats

What is a park run without stats? The event loses its edge without the numbers, and what would running be if you’re not chasing a personal best? At park run in Swellendam, like any other, there are also average times and best times.

The men’s record holder is Bruce Maboza with a time of 17:51, while the women’s record holder is Marion Serfontein with a time of 21:49. An average of 103 runners finish each week and on average their finishing time is 43:46.
