The Langeberg mountains have a lot going on. At any point on their 250km length you can be hiking, mountain biking, or simply just staring at them while having your dinner. But there is a section just to the south of Barrydale, called Klipbok.

There you’ll find a different kind of adventure. This is the kind of adventure that requires four wheels. In fact, it is best done with 4×4 wheels.

The 4×4 Trail at Klipbok

For some people, 24km is a trip to work. But at Klipbok, it’s the length of an adventurous trail. This trail explores a section of the Langeberg mountains that offers steep and rocky terrain, that is even more challenging during the rainy season.

The course should take roughly five hours to complete. The views are spectacular too, with vistas of the valley and the Indian ocean. Above all that, there are tons of other activities to make this more than just a day visit.

Other Activities in The Area

First of all, Barrydale is just a short drive away, serving as the perfect base for your Klipbok adventure. Likewise, once the 4×4 is over there are many other activities to occupy you too.

For example, you can go from 4×4 to 2×2 by enjoying one of the mountain bikes or hiking trails close by. Some guys even bring their dirtbikes out to the trails to take on the 4×4 trails.

The Breede River also runs through here, so fishing is another option.

In contrast, you can jump back into your 4×4 and take on Tradouws pass. This can become an adventure too by branching off onto the offroad shortcuts that lead to various waterfalls and streams.

There are options for camping, and accommodation in Barrydale, you can also spend the day at one of the demarcated braai areas with meat on the grill and good company.
