The Around the Pot is a cycling event with four distances. Riders can enter solo, or as teams of two, three and four. There are also great rewards, including a mid-ride snack and a burger at the end of the ride.

The event takes palace on 23 July 2022 and starts and finishes at the Swellendam Showgrounds.
The various distances of Around the Pot

The 100 miler (160km) is the main race of The Around the Pot and starts and ends at the Swellendam Showgrounds. This return route offers 2350 meters of ascent on an undulating route, which includes a 45-minute neutral zone crossing a river on the Malgas Ferry. Here riders will receive a roosterkoek to replenish their carbohydrates, before hopping off and riding the return route to the finish.

The shorter 60 miler (98km) takes on a modified version of the 100-mile route and includes the ferry trips as part of the experience.

The shortest route is a 25-mile (42km) fun ride through the Bontebok Nature Reserve. This route has 500 meters of ascent and some steep gradients, particularly at the end where most of the last 7km is uphill.
Additionally, there is a 200 miler. It starts and ends at the Swellendam Showground and uses the Malgas Ferry as a neutral zone, just like the other gravel events. It mixes the 100-mile route with some detours to add another 100-miles to the distance.
The Around the Pot DIY 200 miler

The Around The Pot organizers have come up with another way to enjoy the route by opening the 200-mile event route to be ridden all year round. They call it the Around the Pot DIY and it uses most of the event route, barring a few sections of private land that are only made available for the event.
Riders can complete it in any amount of days and accommodation is dotted all along the route. All people entering get a goodie bag as part of their itinerary.
Parking and reward for riding

Besides the roosterkoek at the neutral point on the Malgas Ferry, all finishers will also get a hamburger, made by Buffeljagsrivier Primary School learners, when they cross the finish line.
Parking is provided at the finish where family and supporters can wait. There will also be showers and a chill zone at the finish.
