Swellendam Municipality is aware of the labour dispute of involving local residents and their employer, in the neighbouring area of Napier.

The Municipality encourages all stakeholders to work together to solve the dispute in a manner that is respectful of all parties’ constitutional and labour rights. The Municipality has availed meeting rooms for affected residents to meet and formalise their position, whilst the Mayor has made a contribution towards fuel expenses to allow the aggrieved to travel to Napier for negotiations.

Municipal Manager, Anneleen Vorster stated ‘it is imperative that all employers and employees abide by the laws of this country and endeavour to treat each other with respect and intrinsic human dignity. Let us all remember the spirit of uBuntu and may that be our guiding light.’
