Every year the Old Mutual Wealth Double Century cycle race brings road cycling excitement to the Swellendam area. This was until 2021 when the race was cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Well, it’s back in 2022 happening on 26 November and promising the same excitement, and challenges it did in previous years.
The garden Shack is a restaurant that sits in the middle of Swellendam. But it doesn’t just offer food, it also has a garden that visitors can meander through while they wait for their meal, or just before they order their meals.
Stay on a working farm and be surrounded by an array of animals including cattle, sheep, zebra and springbok. The accommodation is fully decked with DSTV, an indoor braai and even table tennis and pool tables. There’s even a pool with a view at Melk Houte Bosch Guest Farm.
With choices between a 53km and a 35 km plus a two day option od the 53k route, the Whale of Trail trail run has plenty of options for trail runners. There is also a lot of fun at the finish with sand dunes, rock pool, birdwatching and boat trips among the things family members can get up to while they wait for their runners.
Lloyd’s on Route 62 is an Indian restaurant that has been described as “the real Durban experience.” It has a 5 out of 5 rating on Facebook and offers scenic views and a play area for the kids.
Additionally, the service and atmosphere have also been praised, but most of all, praise has been given to the food on the menu.
