Swellendam public library

After the National Library of South Africa, Swellendam Library is the oldest public library in South Africa. The library is 183 years old this year.

Services

  • Provide library services to homeschool groups

  • Provide library services to the old age homes

Railton public library

The library was established in 1975.

VRT Pitt Primary School’s Satellite library is an extension of Railton Library’s services and was established in April 2019.

Barrydale public library

Barrydale Library was one of 27 libraries nationally selected to participate in the Mzansi Libraries On-line project.

The project provided a contribution to staff training, as well as ICT equipment with the goal of providing free access to information via the internet.

The Net vir Pret Satellite library is an extension of Barrydale Library’s services to the Smitsville community in Barrydale, and was established in April 2019.

Suurbraak public library

Currently the biggest in square meters (360m2) in the municipal area.

Vleiplaas school library

Vleiplaas Wheellie Library, Barrydale. This small library is housed in a classroom at a school. The room dually serves as the principal's office, sick room and store room. We are glad to announce Vleiplaas will soon upgrade from the classroom to a Container.

The suppliers are currently finishing off specifications for the container and will soon be offloading the container at the Vleiplaas School.
